Dental Crowns
What is a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns, also known as “caps,” preserve the functionality of damaged teeth. Crowns may be used to protect a cracked tooth or one at risk of fracture, restore the functionality of a tooth with excessive decay, or replace a pre-existing crown.
When is a Dental Crown Needed?
A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:
- To protect a weak tooth from fracture
- To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down or decayed
- To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there is little tooth structure left
- To hold a dental bridge in place
- To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth
- To cover a dental implant
What Types of Crown Materials Are Available?
Permanent crowns can be made from all metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all resin, or all ceramic. We can help you determine which type of material will benefit your teeth the most.
